the frontier was initially discovered and settled by the interstellar manufacturing corporation (imc) and its various subsidiaries, each with conflicting motivations behind the colonization effort. one reason however, is the most prevalent: resources. the exploration and the colonization of the frontier gave a major boost to imc support in the core systems.frontier colonization ramped up with the passage of the imc serviceman's readjustment act, which awarded veterans of imc-backed military campaigns in the core systems various benefits; loans to start businesses and farms on the frontier, low-cost mortgages and guaranteed property rights on frontier worlds to start new lives. these new rush of settlers still had the combat skills they have acquired over the course of the conflict, including commandeering titans (mech-style robots, descended from modern-day fledgling military exoskeletons, designed for both civilian and military applications).in time, conflict erupted yet again in the core systems and this has led to neglect from the imc of the frontier settlers for decades. this has allowed the development of the frontier largely independent from the imc, the growth of a fiercely independent culture and the rise of lawlessness in the area. the conflicts in the core systems eventually ended with the imc as the victor. exhausted of resources from decades of war however, the imc decided to return to the frontier en masse and seeing the frontier colonies thriving, declared eminent domain, citing their initial investment in the frontier's colonization. planets were seized and mining installations propped up at astonishing speeds. meanwhile, frontier settlers were forcibly relocated or evicted from their homes. the various perceived injustices led to the formation of the "frontier militia", a confederation of various planetary armies, pirate and mercenary groups with one goal in mind: protect the frontier and their way of life from the imc.the formation of the militia and its subsequent attacks on imc garrisons was what was presumably the reason for the start of the titan wars. the wars went on for twenty-one years and ended in the imc's victory. only fifteen years after this conflict however, the frontier war began. the militia victory in the battle of demeter turned the tide of war and put the imc on the defensive, cut off from supplies from the core systems, the remaining imc forces limped on as the remnant fleet. the war eventually ended after the battle of gridiron, which left both the militia and the imc with no capabilities to wage more battles.with the end of the frontier war, a group of star systems on the fringe of the frontier known as the outlands were left to fend for themselves after the withdrawal of the imc. civil war between these planets lasted for a couple years until the mercenary syndicate treaty ended it. the six planetary governments who signed the treaty were then formally organized as "syndicate space", ruled by a group calling themselves the mercenary syndicate, the rest of the planets in the outlands became known as the "fringe worlds".one of these fringe worlds, salvo, formally joined syndicate space in after more than a decade of resistance.the core systems include earth, its solar system, and other solar systems easily accessible from earth.

demeter - the closest to the core systems.
eden - named due to the fact that it carries the most similar conditions to earth.

leviathan - homeworld to gargantuan, hulking creatures.
troy - the last to be explored by the imc.
typhon - once verdant like eden until the imc discovered massive fuel reservoirs deep beneath the crust.

outlands

the outlands is a small cluster of planets on the fringes of the frontier. it was controlled by the imc for most of its history, primarily due to its military and mining outposts. imc began to retract from the outlands to focus its efforts on the frontier war. it holds the following planets:solace - a desert planet considered to be the center of the outlands, infamous for its lawlessness and is where kings canyon, a former military base and currently an arena for the apex games, is located.
talos - a volcanic planet under syndicate jurisdiction, homeland to two-time apex games champion bloodhound, and where the second arena, world's edge, is located.
psamathe - a metropolitan planet distinguished for its high cost of living, ruled by an oligarchy of the richest residents with personal armies owned by citizens. it is home planet to evan's family among other legends, and where another arena, olympus, is located.
gaea - a planet with large urban population consisting mostly of farms, its own police task force infamous for being ruthless, and leaders said to be very tyrannical.
salvo - formerly one of the fringe worlds, recently under new leadership and agreed to become the seventh planet in the syndicate space.

legends

legends are the competitors of the apex games, born from the ashes of war. they are icons of strength and power. outside the ring, they're champions. inside, they're equals. the goal is to become the apex legend in the sport of survival.

apex games

the apex games are a televised bloodsport hosted in the outlands and ran by the mercenary syndicate that attracts legends from all across the frontier with promises of money, fame, and glory. it is broadcasted in all of the known planets and core systems.it is a successor to the thunderdome, organized by the imc personnel stationed in kings canyon, and a new incarnation of the apex predators: a mercenary unit of elite pilots led by commander kuben blisk, who is also the commisioner for the apex games. as of may 2021, it has ran for 132 seasons.

how does the apex games work?

simulacra are robotic soldiers with the consciousness of human minds uploaded into; their memories, knowledge, personality, and skills. it is a form of transhumanism. through this technology of digitized consciousness, legends are able to participate in the apex games. only one simulacrum of a given person exists at a time.a team of three are picked at random. any time a player is incapacitated, a copy of their consciousness is stored offsite, a banner takes their place within the arena, and a teammate may respawn them into a beacon to get them back into battlefield. once a player is completely eliminated from the match, they are spawned back into the staging area with a new vessel.

relation to the video game apex legends

due to the apex games popularity, the video game was later developed and launched universally. evan salazar's apex games persona inspired the creation of playable character octavio "octane" silva.
